Anti-theft device for the towbar bike carrier - what should be taken into account?
Theft precautions are an important topic when it comes to bicycle racks for the towbar. There are a few things to bear in mind at this stage:
- Lock: most bicycle carriers for the towbar have an integrated lock to secure the carrier at the towbar. It is important to make sure that the lock is sturdy enough and, most importantly, that it will actually be used.
- Bicycle lock: In order to secure the bicycles properly, it is adviseable to use a bicycle lock as additional security. Many bicycle carriers have special devices for this purpose to which the bicycle lock can be attached.
- Detachable parts: Some bike carriers have removable parts such as the bike rails. These should always be removed and secured separately when the carrier is not in use.
- Visibility: It is advisable to place the bicycle carrier and the bicycles as visibly as possible, for example in a busy car park or near surveillance cameras. This makes it more difficult for potential thieves to get to the rack unnoticed.
- Insurance: It makes sense to insure the bicycle carrier and the bicycles via the car insurance or a separate bicycle insurance.
All in all, it is important to inform yourself about the available anti-theft devices before buying a bicycle carrier and, if necessary, to take additional precautions to maximise the protection of the carrier and the bicycles.
