What do towing load, vertical load and D-value mean for a towbar?

The towing load indicates the maximum weight the trailer can pull. The vertical load indicates the weight that presses on the trailer coupling when the trailer is mounted on the coupling. The D-value indicates the ratio of the towing load to the drawbar load and is a measure of the stability of the towed vehicle. It indicates how much weight can be transferred to the towbar without the trailer becoming unstable and driving difficult.
