Which air suspension system would be better - single-circuit or dual-circuit system?

Air suspension system with single circuit:

A single circuit air suspension system controls all of the vehicle's air springs via a single air system. This means that both sides of the rear axle have the same pressure. This system is simpler in design and more affordable. It is ideal for motorhomes and vans that are not expected to have large load differences between the left and right sides. The advantages of single circuit air suspension system are:

  1. lower costs: less components make the system cheaper and easier to install and maintain.
  2. consistent driving comfort: both sides react equally to pressure changes, resulting in the same driving behaviour of your RV, van or other vehicle.

When does a single circuit system make sense?

  • For light vehicles without significant load differences.
  • If no significant lateral load difference is expected, such as with empty vans or motorhomes without extensive expansion.

Air suspension kit with dual circuit:

A air suspension system with dual circuit allows independent control of the air springs on the left and right side of the rear axle. This offers better levelling and adaptation to uneven loads or rough road conditions. The advantages of this air suspension kit are:

  1. independent adjustment: the pressure can be adjusted separately for the left and right sides. Particularly useful for uneven loading (e.g. heavy water tank in motorhome placed at one side).
  2. increased stability: lateral inclinations are better controlled, which increases safety and comfort, especially for vans or motorhomes with a high centre of gravity.
  3. avoidance of overloading: even if the load is unequal, the axle remains equally loaded, which reduces tyre and chassis wear.
  4. necessary for heavy loads: a dual circuit air suspension system is often prescribed for vehicles with higher axle loads than standard.

What aspects should be taken into consideration when selecting a air suspension kit?

  • Complexity of the air suspension system: a dual circuit system is more vulnerable and heavier than a simple single circuit air suspension system. The additional equipment, such as a compressor, increases the overall weight of the vehicle.
  • Cost-benefit analysis: depending on the purpose and load of the vehicle, a single circuit air suspension kit may be perfectly adequate, while in other cases the dual circuit system has a clear advantage.

Wich air suspension system for motorhome or van?

The choice between single and dual circuit air suspension kit depends on individual requirements and the type of vehicle. Those who only have simple requirements may be well served by a single circuit suspension system. For larger vehicles or those with uneven loads, the dual circuit system is definitely the better choice.

At X-CAMPING you will find a large selection of air suspension systems from various manufacturers. XIMPLIO offers both variants, while LEMET specialises exclusively in dual circuit air suspension systems.

Welche Auflastung bzw. Achslast ist mit ihrer zusatzluftfederung möglich ? Danke im Voraus und viele Grüße aus Wedel Oliver Mädler
